Journey to become GI
The decision to pursue a medical career was made by Dr. Peyton P. Berookim when he was just 16. At that time he suffered head surgery while playing on the ice. A team of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) was the first who saw him in this state, rescued him, and took him to the emergency room. He stayed with this team for several hours in the emergency room till the time his parents arrived. He was so fascinated by the compassionate gesture and skills of the team that he decided to become an EMT in high school. This was just the beginning of his medical career. During the fourth year of his medical school, he worked under the guidance of a GI. The expert skills and knowledge of the GI attracted him and he understood the tremendous growth, opportunities, and exposure in this field. This lead to the turning phase in his life and he decided to pursue his specialty in gastroenterology.
