Lewis Cardiovascular Women’s Leadership Institute with the American College of Cardiology to provide consultation and guidance to female physicians.

When I trained in cardiology, women comprised less than 1% of the cardiology workforce. By the time I finished the fellowship, I had two young children, a husband with a busy academic career, and was building my own thriving cardiology practice. It might’ve seen I had it all, but as I navigated the challenge of being a full-time wife, a mother, and a clinical cardiologist, I longed for friends who shared experiences.”

He has treated all sorts of diseases related to the valves. A mind-blowing development that Dr. Kaul and his team are working on is to develop an artificial heart.

My research interest deal with microbubbles, these are gas-filled bubbles that oscillate in an ultrasound field as they pass through the body, we can image them with ultrasound. We can design microbubbles to diagnose a specific disease. These microbubbles oscillate at a very high velocity, and to capture their behavior we have to develop a camera that is not available currently, so we are developing this camera that can capture 200 million frames per second.”

Dr. Joaquin E. Cigarroa

Joaquin E

I have become a cardiologist for many reasons. The first is to try and help individuals, I lost an uncle at age 51 of an acute stroke, I lost my grandfather from a stroke, and I lost my father’s dad due to sudden death in a setting of a heart attack. I saw the impact that heart disease and stroke have on spouses and children, and yet we have the ability to prevent 70 to 80 percent of them.”

Dr. Joaquin Cigarroa is among the very rare physicians who got involved in the medical world from a young age. His father was also a doctor and Dr. Joaquin would often accompany him to on-calls during his elementary school. Thanks to this early exposure to medical treatment, Dr. Joaquin became fascinated with medicine and decided to become a physician. Losing his uncle and grandfather pushed him into the field of cardiology so that he could prevent patients from losing their lives to heart diseases. He is also very compassionate towards his patients. When he is not working, he enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Specialization

Dr. Joaquin Cigarroa specializes in Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology. He puts a strong emphasis on his research work to develop effective methods to carry out pre-existing procedures that will benefit cardiologists and patients around the world. He has a clinical interest in Valvular Heart Disease, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, and the structure of the heart. With the sudden nature of heart attacks and strokes, Dr. Joaquin spread awareness about chest compressions, and he is strongly in favor of mechanical devices that allow for easier CPR.

Essentially when anyone suffers cardiac arrest, which means that the heart either stops beating entirely or develops an abnormal heart rhythm where blood isn’t effectively pumped to the body. The most important thing to do is to begin chest compressions. Anything that we can do to deliver more effective chest compressions and get outpatients to the hospital, is beneficial to our community and to our population.”

Dr. Eric Putz

Eric Putz Profile

I think the greatest satisfaction I get from what I do every day is the role of a teacher.
