Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the United Kingdom. According to the report of the British Heart Foundation, over 160,000 people lose their lives to heart diseases and other circulatory diseases. If we were to put this number on an average of each day, about 460 deaths occur per day because of cardiovascular diseases. In the capital city of England, there are expert cardiologists that are working hard each day to minimize these statistics.
Dr. Rajan Sharma
As a consultant, by quite some distance, the best about my job is seeing patients. The area of cardiology is particularly rewarding because often we face simple tests talking to the person, you can either reassure them that nothing is wrong with their heart or you can find things that hopefully we can treat.”
Dr. Rajan Sharma is an outstanding doctor, and he is regarded as one of the best cardiology consultants not only in the United Kingdom but around the globe. Dr. Rajan Sharma is often part of medical meetings and conferences. Due to his excellent skills and comprehensive knowledge in this field, he has been appointed as the Director of Echocardiology for St. Georges Hospital. Moreover, he actively communicates with other sectors of the hospital to assess his patients fully, and then provide the best treatment for them.
Specialization
Dr. Rajan Sharma specializes in Complex Echocardiography. He has carried out thousands of Echocardiograms over the years, it is a process that allows physicians to get a clear image of the heart and to see how blood flows through the heart using ultrasound. Dr. Rajan also has a clinical interest in conditions like Valvular Heart Disease, Heart Failure, and hypertension.
For me, the biggest advance in cardiology in the last 10 years has been the way in which we treat valvular disease. Previously the treatment we had which is still very effective is an open heart operation and that remains a very good of treating the valvular disease but some people, particularly, elderly people don’t always respond well to that type of surgery, and now we have technologies that allow us to replace your valve from a much more minimal approach, often just going through an artery in the groin.”

Dr. John Gerry Coghlan
Dr. John Gerry Coghlan is an amazing doctor, and he has been in practice for over 35 years. Originally, he is from Ireland, and he completed his medical education in Ireland as well. Before transitioning into cardiology, Dr. Coghlan studied Otolaryngology, which deals with the issues of the respiratory tract and general neck problems. Additionally, he also trained in Gastroenterology, a branch of science that deals with disorders of the stomach and intestines. Both of these combined gives Dr. Coghlan a broader understanding of a diseased heart, as it is also linked to respiration and dietary habits. He takes a holistic approach when treating his patients, and he also possesses great bedside manners.
Specialization
Dr. John Gerry Coghlan specializes in General Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Pulmonary Hypertension. Being a consultant cardiologist for over 20 years, Dr. Coghlan has seen minor to complex cases of cardiovascular diseases, and he has treated most of them. His patient base comprises mostly adult individuals over 30 years of age. He has treated conditions like Atrial Fibrillation, Breathlessness, Arrhythmias, and Angina.
Pumonary hypertension is when there’s high blood pressure in the lungs. People may be used to high blood pressure in the arm, which is the blood going around the rest of the body, but lungs have their own separate blood supply. The most common reason for high blood pressure in the lungs is heart disease. Again, intensification of the treatment of heart disease becomes a very important part of the management.”

Arrhythmia is a broad term that really means that there is an irregularity or disorder of the heart rhythm. Now, a heart beats 60 times, 80 times a minute, and up to about 80,000 times a day, and it does this very regularly, and it is regulated by our natural pacemaker of the heart. However, on some occasions, that process can go a little bit awry, and there are some irregularities in the heart rhythm, and that is what we mean by Arrhythmia.”

Dr. Sukhjinder Nijjer
I have devoted my life to Medicine and the care of my patients. I am passionate about putting patients at the center of everything that I do. I want to focus on your needs and make our care work around you. I work hard to ensure we have clear communication – I believe this is a central pillar of the patient’s journey back to health.”
Dr. Sukhjinder Nijjer is an excellent cardiologist, and despite being fairly new in the field of cardiology, he is regarded highly by patients and is considered among the best cardiovascular consultant in London. Dr. Nijjer believes in taking a holistic approach to treating patients in general. He looks at some of the key aspects of his patients’ lives such as dietary habits, physical activity, and the balance between medication and life. Moreover, the physician-patient is important to him, and he genuinely enjoys treating his patients.
I have been privileged to have treated patients of every possible background and with lots of different symptoms and heart-related problems. In every case, I am driven to help the patient find the cause of their health concern and treat it using the latest research-guided evidence. I strive to be at the cutting edge of the latest treatments available and I work hard to make those treatments available to my patients.”
Specialization
Dr. Sukhjinder Nijjer specializes in Hypertension and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Nijjer is also big on the research and development aspect of medicine, he continually works with researchers to develop new procedures to assess the blood flow in Coronary Artery Disease. Although he is keen on utilizing the latest technology and procedures to treat his patients better, he doesn’t shy away from raising his voice when it comes to techniques that seem unrealistic in diseases detection. He was featured on BBC Click on stating his opinion on the assessment of Coronary Artery Disease using voice signals.
I would say the technology at present needs a lot more work. The study that’s been published doesn’t give us definitive proof that this technology can make that diagnosis. The study’s been performed in a highly enriched and highly selective group of patients and actually, I would say the capacity of voice to be able to detect the severity of an individual lesion as they’ve proposed is a little far-fetched.”

When you push a wire through a diseased artery it’s not smooth. There’s some resistance. And that’s programmed into the system, as is the slight resistance you feel when you make the initial puncture. In front of you they have real life x-rays to navigate, as you would use on an actual person, so you’re getting not only a visual feel, but also the tactile and haptic feel of the equipment. It’s very realistic, very high definition.”

Of course, a teenage girl smoking, won’t see the effects of that for a decade, twenty, thirty years, and then, then the trouble will hit, and so smoking drive takes quite a while to come into the system.
